On December 1, 2012, Dr. Michael Sonick was a presenter at the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial (AAOMS) Dental Implant Conference, held in Chicago. Dr. Sonick gave his lecture, ““I Always Graft the Maxillary Single Tooth Site” to an audience of his peers. This conference offers an intensive educational program of innovative techniques and procedures, presented by an internationally renowned faculty of leaders in implant dentistry and is a major activity of AAOMS, which The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), the professional organization representing more than 9,000 oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the United States. This years conference 1400 professionals attended.

Dr. Michael Sonick participated in the 2012 Connecticut Mission of Mercy, affectionately referred to as CTMOM. The two day clinic provides free dental care to the underserved and uninsured in Connecticut – those that would otherwise go without dental care. Oral health is inseparable from general health and can affect a person’s self-esteem, compromise their ability to work, attend school and lead a normal life. The Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach (CDFO) in collaboration with the Connecticut State Dental Association (CSDA) held the state’s first Mission of Mercy project in 2008. Every year, the Connecticut Mission of Mercy project is held in a different location throughout the state. 2,008 patients received care and $1,300,000 in donated dental services were provided. A twenty-three member volunteer team, organized by Healing the Children Northeast, returned from Peru after providing free dental care to children in indigenous villages along the Amazon River. During the 6 clinical days, the team treated 317 patients and provided 375 extractions, hygiene to 85 patients and 417 teeth were restored. The total value of donated services was $273,300.
Husband and wife team, Dr. Michael Sonick and Carole Sonick of Fairfield County Implants and Periodontics, PC took part in their first overseas volunteer dental mission. Working together, the Sonicks’ experienced a dental environment unlike their office in Fairfield, Connecticut. “The Peruvian dental mission was extremely gratifying. The patients were very appreciative and kind. Visiting Peru made me much more appreciative of our dental practice and where we live”, Michael Sonick stated warmly. Both have already committed to joining another volunteer dental mission in 2013.
